24 hrs to the Shoot for the Cure !!

Preparing for the Shoot for the Cure...

Can't sleep I always do this get all nervous and excited about large events, according to the list we are looking at 40 models and some 40 photographers...That is a lot of people!
So I check on my kit...and rechecked, made sure I have at least makeup for 10 models (Ideally there will be 9 makeup artists and 5 hair stylist) but we all know how these things go...It's a charity no one gets paid...so we will probability have half the models and less than a hand full of stylists....that means I got to be ready…and I do not meant to mean…people have different priorities.

Mm link:
http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=395965&page=1
web site:

The Photographer on the shoot was SPierce Photography, Model Brandi - HI and Mua was Yours Truly ME!

Location Photoshoot are a bit uncomfortable for a Makeup Artist, but they are a mountain of fun, and the images are fantastic!

Ori-Janel Aroma Art!

I love telling stories, so here goes…
Prior to my Christmas Vacation my dear friend Janel started a home based business….creating small potpourri sachets…with a very unique personality!

Janel is a Wonderful and Incredible Individual! Beautiful (she is a model) and artistic (She Creates Aromatic Art) !! I love to paint and create but sewing is not my thing, I admire people that can sew… So here she is, creating this little Sachets with a variety of aromas…Lavender, Vanilla, Gardenia, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Jasmine, Green Tea, Warm Sugar Cookies, Linen and Vanilla, and selling them on Etsy! How Entrepreneurial of her! And Now She is Expanding!!

Back to the Sachets...
Small enough to be placed in shoe boxes and drawers, and beautiful enough to leave hanging in any room in plain view! So I contacted her asking if she made custom made ones…the answer was yes, design and aroma can be custom made. That meant that I could have one to match my Makeup Endeavour and that would fit my sense of smell (I am super sensitive to smells/odors). I got exited and decided I will purchase a few for myself as soon as I got back form Vacation!

I went on vacation and came back to find a box on my Kitchen Table (my house/pet sitter put it there)! It felt like Christmas all over again!!! Here I am home with a box I was not expecting! I looove Surprises!

I open the box to find 2 Ori-Janel Creations! I love them!!

One is a Beautiful Custom Made Just for Me "Makeup Artist Extraordinaire Sachet"!
Gorgeous with it's Compact, Powder Buff, Nail Polish and Blush Brush and a pleasant Sandalwood Aroma!!

The 2Nd one is a Beautiful "Flower Inspired Sachet"! This is also flavored with Sandalwood...did I mention I love Sandalwood and its Purifying Properties?
Where to place them now is the issue….they are to beautiful to be hiding in a drawer or closet!!
To Be Continued….

IMATS Los Angeles 2009

“The Show” is Coming!!!
June 20th and 21st!!!

Last year I have discovered the IMATS...OK it did exist before me, bu me as an artist first came to know about this fabulous event last year.

The IMATS Los Angeles 2009!!!
Date: June 20 and 21
Location: The Pasadena Convention Center (located at 300 East Green Street)
Presented by Make-Up Artist magazine (I am a subscriber to)

The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) is the only show of its kind in the world. Last year I have ventured out to Pasadena with a friend (sweet gal but not into makeup)
We floated to the Exhibition Hall several times and watched the competition, took only 2 classes and well had to leave...due to miss-management of time, resources and money!!!!

So here are my tips for this year event:
1. Start Saving Money ($400 is not enough to satisfy my makeup fetish).
2. Go BOTH days....believe me one day is not enough!
3. Book a room or crash at a friend's couch near by. Tell the friend in advance...
4. Bring a friend that is interested in Makeup...or forget it go on your own, you'll make friends there!
5. Buy thickets in advance...saves money and time (lines at the event are HUGE)
6. As soon as it is available research class schedule, and plan to attend in advance
7. Prepare a list of product you are interested in or need to yourself/kit (I bought everything that caught my fancy and nothing I needed!!)
8. Bring Pad and Pen for Classes
9. Wear comfortable shoes/clothes
10. Bring a snack and water...carry a small backpack with it all.

Image from IMATS 2008 Winners on Make-up Artist Magazine.

History of "The Show" (taken form the IMATS Website...)
"During the mid-’90s, there were no trade shows specifically for make-up artists, and cosmetic companies expressed a desire for such an event. Knowing just how much education could be provided, Make-Up Artist publisher Michael Key held the first International Make-Up Artist Trade Show in August 1997. The Show allowed artists to custom-tailor what they wanted to see. It offered a diverse mix of presentations, products, demonstrations, and education by some of the biggest names in the business. Like Make-Up Artist magazine, the Trade Show continues to further Key’s vision to educate and reach make-up artists around the world."

Competitions Themes for this year:
Fantasy/beauty competition theme is Gothic.
The character competition theme, X-Men Mutants,
Guidelines for the competitions are pretty strict so I think I'll just hang out and watch.

Hope to see all you Make-Up Lovers there!
This is going to be sooo much fun!

Super Enhancing Mascara from Lancome

The Base to Wonderful Lashes!
Cils Booster XL
"Super-Enhancing Mascara Base"
Lancôme is one of my favorite brands...that is why I keep going back to the counters for more!
Latest personal discovery was a Mascara that can give your lashes an XL boost.

Benefits
• Lengthens and thickens lashes without clumping
• Fortifies, treats and restructures lashes
• Protects lashes
• Smooths eyelashes by coating them thinly and evenly-emphasizing even the shortest lashes
• Intensifies color of mascara

What do you get with this new Technology:

• Micro-Fibres
• D-Panthénol
• Vitamin E
• Triangular, thin-shaped brush
• Provides a white base for mascara to cover

This Mascara Base give your lashes the care they need. Lancôme's Cills Booster XL is a vitamin-enriched cream base that covers and protects the hairs of the lash, like you protect your hair. Leaves them soft and ready for any Mascara application. And with the tiny micro fiber, it really helps mascara to adhere and gives the result of full and fluffy lashes. Plus, it prevents the lashes from drying out and makes mascara removal a breeze.

The only side note I could find...once the lashes are covered with the white base they do not hold the curve form the lash-curler.

Monday Wisdom...

The key question isn't "What fosters creativity?" But it is why in God's name isn't everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.

Vampire Killing Kit

Now this is NEWS!!!
“200-year-old Vampire Killing Kit was recently sold at an auction in Natchez, Mississippi!!! “
A complete and authentic vampire killing kit — estimated to be made around the 1800, complete with stakes, mirrors, a gun with silver bullets, crosses, a Bible, holy water, candles and even garlic, all kept in a handy dandy American walnut case with a carved cross on top — attained $14,850 in the Jimmy Pippen estate sale by Stevens October 3–4 in the new Natchez Convention Center. Isn’t that Wonderful?!?!?
Ok so here is what I think…I read a lot. I read all the times. I average a book a week when time permits…and that is whit a full time job…and one of my favorite topic it Vampires, from the Teen Fictions all the way to the Romances, Mystery, and Sci-Fi Novels. I love Vampires!

So please explain why would one want to kill Vampires???

Curiosity get the best of me all the times, it's sad, but I decided to do some research on this “kit” and I found out that there are more Vampire Killing Kits out there, some to be found on even on e-bay!

Here a few more I found on the Internet....

Now I need to ask, since Holly Water, Bible and Crosses are present in almost all these kits, does that mean that only Christians can kill Vampires, or are there no Vampires in non Christian Countries???? Are there no Vampires in Iraq?? Or India??
And what about the silver bullets??? I thought that was for Werewolves and other Shifter beings…last I checked Vampires were unaffected by bullets.
I wonder...

Weeweechu!!!!

Everyone Deserves a Happy Ending!

It's a romantic full moon,
when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."
"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.
"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Pedro begged.
"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Rosita.
"Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."
Rosita looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."
Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang....."Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Todd Homme from Blush

I normally do not watch TV...OK I do watch TV, I just turn it off if there is nothing good on. I do not channel serf for hours with the hope that something good will magically appear. I particularly dislike having a date/appointment with my television....that is why I record or wait till the DVD comes out at Hollywood Videos!!!

But once in a while the Magic does happen!! And that was "Blush :The Search for the Next Great Make-Up Artist" that aired on Lifetime for the past few weeks.
The Show was AMAZING!!! I learned sooooo much!
I recorded almost all of it....I think I am missing only one episode...

Sooo much Talent in on Show!
And for this reason I have to say I am sooo sad for the passing of Todd Homme, one of the finalist in the show.
A beautiful and Extremely Talented Artist with a Contagious Smile and a Positive and Light Heated View of Life.
My thought and prayer are with Todd's family and loved ones.

Go Paint The Beautiful Angels Todd!

The world has lost a great Talent :(

Purity Made Simple by Philosophy

My product of choice for today is Purity Made Simple by Philosophy!
I call this my Magic Cleaner!!

I have a bit of the acne prone skin, I have to use Proactive to maintain. As we all know Proactive does not remove makeup very well, especially this time of year when we add on more foundation, more mascara and all that glitter that makes us sparkle!!

So this is my product of choice to remove all, even the most stubborn glitter and waterproof mascara!
So here is the break down...taken from the Sephora web site...
What it is: A highly-effective one-step facial cleanser!!
What it is formulated to do: Philosophy Purity Made Simple is a pH-balanced formula that rapidly dissolves dirt and makeup while deep cleaning pores. The best-selling cleanser contains infusions of sage, chamomile, and carrot.

What else you need to know: Purity Made Simple is part of a collection of Philosophy products designed to soothe even the most dry and sensitive skin.

I have also noticed that it does not dryers my face, it is smooth and pleasantly scented, it last a loooong time, a small nickel size amount can do the magic! It does not burn or irritates my skin even on the breakouts, I use it at night and after a scrub/mask since it makes the process easier and less tedious (you have tired to wash out a clay mask.... right???)

I can actually forgo the lotion (not a good idea due to my skin and age) but the pleasant feeling is like that first bite of very good chocolate...you want to savor it till the end!!!

I love this Philosophy Purity Made Simple.

Chicano Park Photo-shoot with Hayley and Cherie

Hayley and Cherie

Life as a makeup artist is perceived to be beautiful, glamorous and full of highlights and fabulous moments!
Well I got to say that is a bit off the make...OK it is beautiful and glamorous but it's also a lot of work , long hours and little sleep...stress, pressure, and wonderful accomplishments!

To illustrate my point:
I was book for this Urban Style photo-shoot.
The shoot was to take place at Chicano Park, San Diego CA at 9:30 am on a Saturday.

So here are some of the things I had to keep in mind as a makeup artist...
Meeting location for hair and Makeup: Model's house in North Park....15-20 minutes away form Chicano Park....and well 30-35 minutes way form my house.
Photo-shoot makeup take approximately 35 to 45 minutes, depending on look, degree of difficulty...(yeah we got that too), how much and what type of makeup I need to be carrying, can I bring the large kit or the travel kit, what is the color coordination for the Models, expectation of the Photographer, time commitment etc....
No wonder I feel so tired!

So I arrive at the Cherie's house at 7:30pm...parking in North Park is hard....no it's horrible!!
The hair stylist was on location all ready (thanks the Heavens) and was already working on Cherie! So I hanged out waiting for the Hayley (that was having parking difficulties)
Once she walked throw the door, the cinnamon rolls were ready (model's diet), we started to rock and roll!
After a few brakes, meeting the pets (very cute Chinchilla), roommate, and eating cinnamon rolls the models were done and ready and on their way out!!

What I have learned:
Both models are beautiful in their own unique ways, I have worked with both on several occasions. I have learned their faces and was able to create something I consider beautiful and very appropriate for the occasion...both models and photographers were please by my work.

Practice makes prefect, one of the model has unique features, and no matter how many time I worked with her I could never get it just right, but I believe I nailed it this time, so I am super Happy!

Here is what come of it...
