Vampire Killing Kit

Now this is NEWS!!!
“200-year-old Vampire Killing Kit was recently sold at an auction in Natchez, Mississippi!!! “
A complete and authentic vampire killing kit — estimated to be made around the 1800, complete with stakes, mirrors, a gun with silver bullets, crosses, a Bible, holy water, candles and even garlic, all kept in a handy dandy American walnut case with a carved cross on top — attained $14,850 in the Jimmy Pippen estate sale by Stevens October 3–4 in the new Natchez Convention Center. Isn’t that Wonderful?!?!?
Ok so here is what I think…I read a lot. I read all the times. I average a book a week when time permits…and that is whit a full time job…and one of my favorite topic it Vampires, from the Teen Fictions all the way to the Romances, Mystery, and Sci-Fi Novels. I love Vampires!

So please explain why would one want to kill Vampires???

Curiosity get the best of me all the times, it's sad, but I decided to do some research on this “kit” and I found out that there are more Vampire Killing Kits out there, some to be found on even on e-bay!

Here a few more I found on the Internet....

Now I need to ask, since Holly Water, Bible and Crosses are present in almost all these kits, does that mean that only Christians can kill Vampires, or are there no Vampires in non Christian Countries???? Are there no Vampires in Iraq?? Or India??
And what about the silver bullets??? I thought that was for Werewolves and other Shifter beings…last I checked Vampires were unaffected by bullets.
I wonder...

Weeweechu!!!!

Everyone Deserves a Happy Ending!

It's a romantic full moon,
when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."
"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.
"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Pedro begged.
"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Rosita.
"Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."
Rosita looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."
Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang....."Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Todd Homme from Blush

I normally do not watch TV...OK I do watch TV, I just turn it off if there is nothing good on. I do not channel serf for hours with the hope that something good will magically appear. I particularly dislike having a date/appointment with my television....that is why I record or wait till the DVD comes out at Hollywood Videos!!!

But once in a while the Magic does happen!! And that was "Blush :The Search for the Next Great Make-Up Artist" that aired on Lifetime for the past few weeks.
The Show was AMAZING!!! I learned sooooo much!
I recorded almost all of it....I think I am missing only one episode...

Sooo much Talent in on Show!
And for this reason I have to say I am sooo sad for the passing of Todd Homme, one of the finalist in the show.
A beautiful and Extremely Talented Artist with a Contagious Smile and a Positive and Light Heated View of Life.
My thought and prayer are with Todd's family and loved ones.

Go Paint The Beautiful Angels Todd!

The world has lost a great Talent :(

Purity Made Simple by Philosophy

My product of choice for today is Purity Made Simple by Philosophy!
I call this my Magic Cleaner!!

I have a bit of the acne prone skin, I have to use Proactive to maintain. As we all know Proactive does not remove makeup very well, especially this time of year when we add on more foundation, more mascara and all that glitter that makes us sparkle!!

So this is my product of choice to remove all, even the most stubborn glitter and waterproof mascara!
So here is the break down...taken from the Sephora web site...
What it is: A highly-effective one-step facial cleanser!!
What it is formulated to do: Philosophy Purity Made Simple is a pH-balanced formula that rapidly dissolves dirt and makeup while deep cleaning pores. The best-selling cleanser contains infusions of sage, chamomile, and carrot.

What else you need to know: Purity Made Simple is part of a collection of Philosophy products designed to soothe even the most dry and sensitive skin.

I have also noticed that it does not dryers my face, it is smooth and pleasantly scented, it last a loooong time, a small nickel size amount can do the magic! It does not burn or irritates my skin even on the breakouts, I use it at night and after a scrub/mask since it makes the process easier and less tedious (you have tired to wash out a clay mask.... right???)

I can actually forgo the lotion (not a good idea due to my skin and age) but the pleasant feeling is like that first bite of very good chocolate...you want to savor it till the end!!!

I love this Philosophy Purity Made Simple.

Chicano Park Photo-shoot with Hayley and Cherie

Hayley and Cherie

Life as a makeup artist is perceived to be beautiful, glamorous and full of highlights and fabulous moments!
Well I got to say that is a bit off the make...OK it is beautiful and glamorous but it's also a lot of work , long hours and little sleep...stress, pressure, and wonderful accomplishments!

To illustrate my point:
I was book for this Urban Style photo-shoot.
The shoot was to take place at Chicano Park, San Diego CA at 9:30 am on a Saturday.

So here are some of the things I had to keep in mind as a makeup artist...
Meeting location for hair and Makeup: Model's house in North Park....15-20 minutes away form Chicano Park....and well 30-35 minutes way form my house.
Photo-shoot makeup take approximately 35 to 45 minutes, depending on look, degree of difficulty...(yeah we got that too), how much and what type of makeup I need to be carrying, can I bring the large kit or the travel kit, what is the color coordination for the Models, expectation of the Photographer, time commitment etc....
No wonder I feel so tired!

So I arrive at the Cherie's house at 7:30pm...parking in North Park is hard....no it's horrible!!
The hair stylist was on location all ready (thanks the Heavens) and was already working on Cherie! So I hanged out waiting for the Hayley (that was having parking difficulties)
Once she walked throw the door, the cinnamon rolls were ready (model's diet), we started to rock and roll!
After a few brakes, meeting the pets (very cute Chinchilla), roommate, and eating cinnamon rolls the models were done and ready and on their way out!!

What I have learned:
Both models are beautiful in their own unique ways, I have worked with both on several occasions. I have learned their faces and was able to create something I consider beautiful and very appropriate for the occasion...both models and photographers were please by my work.

Practice makes prefect, one of the model has unique features, and no matter how many time I worked with her I could never get it just right, but I believe I nailed it this time, so I am super Happy!

Here is what come of it...

Monday Wisdom...

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Sephora's Glitter Eyeliner

It's Christmas Season again, OK it has been for a while, but I am only know starting to feel it, with all the lights on the homes...and the weather is finally cold.
Living in Southern California (Sunny San Diego) has its perks, one can still wear shorts and a t-shirt in December.

Because of the occasion I chose a product that would work great this Holidays.

I found myself at Sephora a few days back, looking for Christmas Gifts (like I need a reason to be in a makeup store) and bumped into the Sephora's Glitter Eyeliner...I have to say this product is great, and so much more affordable than other glitter stuff, so I bought 2! (not for presents, these are for me)

So what is it? A gel-based eyeliner with some serious sparkle.

What does it do: Sephora Brand Glitter Eyeliner creates a defined, precise, long lasting line that is full of brilliant glitter for an all-out glam-tastic look!

This versatile liner adds glitter to the lash line and can also be used over different eye shadows

It's waterproof, and it comes in 7 different colors: Gold, Purple, Teal, Blue, Silver, opal and Black!

How do I use it? Well I am a bit unconventional so I chose to use it over my mascara on my lashes...yes instead of buying a glitter mascara I use this, it's cheaper ($12)...and it works fabulous, plus I can add more glitter without having to cake my lashes with extra mascara.

I say this is a must for the Season!

New Moon form Stephenie Mayer

Have you heard????

Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel!

BUT "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke will not be involved or directing or anything on the new installment of the Twilight vampire franchise's New Moon, or at least that is what Yahoo said, there is some kind of conflict...

That saddens me, since aside form some of the actors choices I believe she did a great job at following the book, and picking up some of the small but important details that make Twilight memorable. Thinking of actors, rumors says that the studio does not want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner as Jacob...I think that would be a mistake, he is the perfect cute werewolf!

"New Moon" is the second installment in Stephenie Meyer 's four-book series.

I can't wait!!

Effacernes by Lancôme

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but when you are dealing with dark circles and fine lines under the eyes, beauty can take a different meaning...and well, it's not what you stare at when you look into the mirror...so I tried Effacernes!

I am not a big believer in concealer since I feel like it's application can be tricky, I usually refrain form using it unless strictly necessary. Not applied well concealer can take a life of its own and instead of fixing the problem it might cause it to stand out more, or aggravate it.

The perfect Concealer would have natural coverage concealer that instantly eliminate tell-tale signs of stress and fatigue. Provides complete, natural-looking coverage, evens skin tone, covers dark circles and minimizes fine lines around the eyes.

That said I have tested and searched high and low for the perfect Concealer. My search for the perfect Concealer brought me to Lancôme Effacernes Waterproof Undereye Concealer.

The Vitamin A and skin conditioning ingredients gives it a smooth texture, easy application and blendability, a matte finish that does not cake or crack, and best part of it all...it's waterproof and that makes it extremely long lasting! Another point in favor to Effacernes is that unlike most eye concealers that are available in a basic yellow tone, it comes in nine different shades ranging in tones from Porcelain to Bronze.

I love this product! I have added it to my professional makeup kit and my own personal one!

Twilight Makeup

Twilight by Stephenie Mayer is one of the new buzz around town.
The first book of a series of four.
About Teenagers and Vampires.
About Love.

Made into a Movie, and I have to say it is a very good movie since it does not stray so far away form the book. I loved the movie, loved the books (all 4) even more, they have effectively stolen a good portion of my life since once I started reading them and could not put them down....

So I ask the question...

Who did the makeup and how was it done....
The artist behind the magic was Jeanne Van Phue.
I have tried to find some info of her, but failed miserably...there is an interview out there, I might paste it later.

What was used....

On Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan
Foundation: SK-II Air Touch Foundation in OP-3
Powder: M.A.C. Blot Powder/Pressed in Light
Blush: Visiora Compact Powder in PC 103
Eye Shadow: M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Blanc Type, Flute and Wedge
Mascara: Smashbox Limitless Lash Mascara in black waterproof
Lips: Smashbox Lip & Lid Primer and Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick in Good to Go (a plum/brown color)

On Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen
Foundation: SK-II Air Touch Foundation in OP-1
Powder: M.A.C. Blot Powder/Pressed in Light
Lips: Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick in Ms. Behavin (a mulberry color)
One question remains...I am still trying to figure out how they made Edward sparkel like diamonds...
Got to see the movie!! I saw it twice!

Monday Wisdom...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

"Cool Globes"

As an Artist, I an often attracted to different and unique “stuff”.
Walking in Balboa Park to drop off my step-son (nick-named Nene) to his Saturday morning acting class, at the San Diego Junior Theatre at the Prado, I noticed Globes… big colorful globes all around the large fountain in front of the Ruben H. Fleet Center and all the way to the Prado.
I came up with what we call at home “teachable moment”…so my husband and I waited for Nene to come out of class and we went Globe Exploring.
Once at home I sad down and did a bit of research. Found out that we were looking at the “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” exhibition form the San Diego National History Museum, and is it beautiful! The exhibition will be in San Diego until November 30th, 2008.
Here are some of the images taken by me.

Fashion Show Makeup!!

Makeup for “Fashion Whore” Fashion Show

Location: The Bras Rail in San Diego, CA
Designer:
Miss Alphabeth
Model: Amber Dawn
Photographer: Anthony Munoz

Fashion Whore used to have Amateur Fashion Shows once a month at The Brass Rail in Hillcrest.
The Show would feature new and upcoming designers form all over San Diego County and La County. This was a nice place to get your feet wet in the runway “world”, for all involved.
Runway makeup, or Cat Walk makeup is different form Photography, Movies and Everyday makeup. It is usually heavier, more a-vanguard, it is dependent of the fashion of the time and the designer’s collection, and usually something you would not wear to got to the store or at a coffee shop.
How did I do it:
Base, base , base, I think she has at least 2 laier of base on, heavier makeup on the eyes that compliment the outfit, clear lips to balance things out, and a design inspired by Paisley doen with pencil grenn eyeliner, and eye shodows.

Oscillation Vibrating. Infinite. Powermascara.

It’s finally out (on my birthday) the first vibration Powermascara by Lancome this Mascara had a waitlist of 21,000 people!!

This Powermascara by Lancome can 7000 oscillations per minute!!
Good things:

No more zigzagging the brush, this mascara is applied in gentle strokes straight stokes.
Two coats makes lashes look like they got extensions.
A few more strokes and you are ready to perform on Broadway.
No over-pumping the wand, the brush has more than enough for multiple coats.
Long lasting and lashes appear extended, separated and visibly multiplied.

Not sooo Good things:

The Powermascara has a light buzzing sound a light tingly feeling once the brush touched the lashes, not uncomfortable, but something to be aware of. The idea of anything vibrating near the eye can be a bit unnerving to say the least, but the amazing length and luscious lashes make the mascara well worth it.

Practice makes perfect!

Fab Photographers I have worked with...

Craig Alexander

After so many years in the industry I can honestly say I have met some really cool people, and some not that cool…
Of all the people, one stands out in my mind for more than just a photographer but also a friend, Craig Alexander.

Craig is a Southern California photographer that has been shooting professionally for about 10 years. His passion for photography includes all aspects of it, form the setting up and organizing, to the post-production process, and finally the finished result.
He believes in natural and real beauty, finding the aspects of the subject that has been over-looked or neglected and making it flourish, immortalizing it forever with his camera.

Craig is a fun person, with an easy smile and a helping hand, he can be silly during a photo-shoot or event, but still maintain his professionalism. He is always ready for a good challenge and takes everything with a “can do” attitude.
Craig is a strong believer in “It takes a second to loose a reputation it took a life time to build”

Interview….
So here I go with my usual questions…
NM: Where are you originally from?
CA: I born and raised in Dayton Ohio. (He is a man of few words...)

NM: You got a blog…..what is it called I want to read it?
CA: No blog short bio on web site and MySpace.

NM: Tell me something special about you...aside form being Crazy and Black...I want to write about you in my blog....add some images...the whole deal...Make it fancy!
CA: I shoot more of a person’s personality. I hold myself back on shots looking for the edges that model don't see in them selves.

NM: How do you fell about Photoshop??
CA: I want a person to see beauty without a ton on editing.

NM: Do you think I am Crazy?
CA: …….. (There is a strange quiet…this is the moment he looks at me like I am Crazy!)

So here are a few of the places you can see Craig's Work.

Fantastic New Online Outlet Store!!!

BRANDLET.COM

Brandlet is an online retailer that sells only authentic name brand products at outlet prices. We start by buying the same products that are found in high-end department stores. While those stores mark up the price to cover their huge payroll, rent, and other overhead costs, we sell direct from our warehouse, which saves you up to 60%. Our online shopping interface is easy and safe; we ship quickly; and we offer a generous return policy. The Brandlet experience combines the quality and service of a department store with the ease and price of an online outlet.”

I have recently purchased 1Jacket, and 3 shirts, at Brandlet.
The transaction was super smooth, and the best part was I never had to wonder where my package was. Brandlet sent me updated info via email on the Fed Ex package all the way form shipment to delivery!! I placed the ordered on Friday, and got all my stuff on Tuesday!! Fed Ex boxed arrived and Whoa!!! The items were perfect and exactly what I ordered, the package was so pretty I took pictures so I can share…last time my clothes where packaged like this I have purchased them at Nordstrom!!

Great Product!
Great Prices!
Great Delivery and Follow-up!
So I highly recommend it!!

Monday Wisdom....

One of the many obsessions I have is for books…not all books, usually the very colorful ones, the ones on makeup, psychology, art (drawing, painting, manga, etc), vampires’ novels and some other fiction, and the small books on spirituality, self help and so on…

My last little book purchase was “Everyday Wisdom for Success”, by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer….
I must say that it’s and inspirational little book….

So I decided to share:

“Even if you don’t know what you should be doing or what your mission is, you need to practice creating that vision anyway.” By Dr Wayne W. Dyer

Juicy Glee Crystal Clear Lip Gloss

Juicy, Juicy sooo Juicy and with a delicious crystal shine!

Juicy Glee Crystal Clear Lip Gloss from Lancome it is an adorably packaged pot gloss that has a spongy, gel-like texture and a somewhat thick, slightly syrupy application that feels surprisingly non-sticky and the jelly texture melts onto your lips for a perfect smooth finish.

The translucent, fruit-themed colors may look too bold and bright in the package, but each goes on very soft. Great for trying colors without looking to “made-up”.

Available in multiple sweet shades served in the adorable jelly jars!!

Approximate Price....$18.00

Fab Photographers I have worked with...

Normad

Working with Normad…a.k.a. Beltran

Normad or Mr. B, as I like to call him is a very unique photographer, Easygoing, and Fun to be around.
When I asked him where you are originally from?

“Me: I'm from everywhere ... isn't that the curse/blessing from modern times?I was born in Venezuela, but I also spent 4.5 years in Spain as a kid and I've been here for like 7 years now ... so that's why my accent is so messed up :P”

He is also one of the smartest people I know….just be very, very careful to ask about what he studies…this is the condensed version…he did try to explain it to me once… (Keep in mind English is his second or third language), thankfully his lovely Wife Jennifer came to the rescue and got me out of the quicksand!!!

So here is what he said to me… (Condensed version…)

“I study a weird thing that is called computational science ...it's a mixture of math, computers and some other field, which in mycase happened to be biology. It’s interesting, but at a times it'sa pain too, which is why I started doing photography :D”

Style of Photography...
Unique, Crazy, Modest and completely off the wall, he is no typical photographer
He enjoys life as a series and storyboards- his images have a defined meaning, form the title to the colors he is expressing an idea, a feeling, a concept.
He spends lots of time creating, researching, and evisioning a project.
He is very Expressive with his hands- he would walk around rolling his index fingers in the air, like as if he is a musical conductor and the is a full orchestra in form of him!
He has an extensive knowledge of Asian Styles and Mythology…I am not the only one that lives life as a cartoon…I think he does too.

What he has to say about me….
“Hey readers don't miss your chance and make sure you work with Naiyana. Not only she's creative, fun and competent, but she's punctual and reliable. She'll work with you whether is an "on the fly" project or a "planned and discussed with storyboards" one. In either case you'll be happy with the results :)”

Where to contact him??? Try mm…I think he lives there
